We recently caught up with Bert who runs The Farm at Bogue in Bogue, North Carolina alongside her husband and brother.
They started the farm back in March 2019 and have been growing strong ever since! The Farm at Bogue started out selling their produce to wholesale customers then slowly started to get into selling produce at local farmer’s markets. As they began to get their bearings on running their farm and business, they began to expand to other farmer’s markets and local restaurants. Bert said their sales have only increased and they have not been able to keep up with the demand for fresh, local produce and sell out every weekend!
The Farm at Bogue is now selling produce at four local farmer’s markets in their areas, and most Saturday’s you can find them at all four! Bert said their sales have only increased and they have not been able to keep up with the demand for fresh, local produce and sell out every weekend.
Bert and her brother grew up on a traditional soil farm and have been around farming and agriculture their whole lives. Initially, they had no plans to go into farming, but Bert’s brother began experimenting with hydroponics and they eventually found AmHydro through researching more about the industry.
Bert and her husband attended an AmHydro seminar and decided to go for it and purchased an NFT 1200 system to get their business started. With the demand in their area being so high for fresh produce, they are currently working to add more equipment to their farm so that they can continue to produce enough fresh produce to meet demand. The most popular crops they sell at the farmer’s markets are romaine lettuce, kale, arugula, tomatoes, and cucumbers.
