How Will You Grow in 2024?

Simple exercises to embrace the new year
January 3, 2024

The first few weeks of January are always an exciting time. It’s an opportunity to look ahead and make plans to seize every opportunity. It’s also a time to look inward and reflect on your own personal journey. How will you grow in 2024?

Whether you’re an industry pro or dreaming about launching a farm for the first time this year, here are a few exercises we recommend to help ground yourself and prepare for a year full of open doors and challenges.

New Year Planning and Reflection Exercises

Self Retreat

Work systematically through the different areas of your life and reflect on how things went in 2023. Family, relationships, professional work, non-professional pursuits (hobbies, passion projects, volunteering or social contribution).

    • How did you spend your time in 2023? How did your days and weeks go? What are you proud of? What could be improved?

    • What lessons do you want to carry into 2024? What will you try to do differently?
Goal Identification

Try to narrow down specific goals that you want to accomplish in 2024. Are they realistic? What steps do you actually need to take to achieve them? How will you hold yourself or let others hold you accountable?

Peer Planning:

Ask a mentor or respected peer to sit down and compare notes on self reflection and goals. Get another perspective, challenge each other, and use this time to sharpen your outlook and planning for 2024.

Documentation

Keeping a persistent log of your progress throughout the year can be really helpful – creating regular opportunities for self check-ins. This can take the form of a physical journal or diary, a digital document like a Google Doc or on Notion, or a project management platform like Trello. What’s your preferred method?

There are so many more great ideas out there to help you put you on your personal growth journey. If you’re inspired, try doing an internet search for “New year planning exercises” or “Personal development exercises”.

If any of your goals have to do with CEA or hydroponic growing, make sure that one of the first things on your to-do list is “Check in with AmHydro rep to talk about goals.”
